The eye nut is commonly utilized for various applications such as dead ending, back-guying, and attaching pole head guys to the threaded ends of cross arm bolts. It plays a crucial role in overhead power lines and pole line construction. The eye nut encompasses different types including thimble eye nut, oval eye nut, clevis eye nut, and angle thimble eyelet. The thimble eye nut consists of a thimble eye and twin-eye. The oval eye nut is primarily designed for vertically passing 1/2 or 5/8 inch machine bolts through the cross arm to attach dead end clamps. The thimble eye nut is assembled with a threaded end of a 1/2 or 5/8 inch eye bolt, which spans across a wooden pole to support strain insulators for the dead end wire. The twin-eye nut is used in conjunction with double guys. The manufacturing process of eye nuts involves drop forging using steel rods. The rods are heated to a red-hot state and then shaped using localized compressive force. Different tooling is employed to produce thimble eye nuts and oval eye nuts. The forged eye nuts undergo polishing to maintain their high strength before drop forging. The eye nut features threads in its middle section, which are compatible with the connecting bolts. The internal threads of the eye nut are drilled using a bench drill machine to ensure easy installation.
