The pole step, also known as the utility pole climbing step, is installed on power poles, whether they are hollow or wood poles, to enable line workers to climb and perform maintenance tasks.
These pole steps are made from hot-dip galvanized materials, meeting the specifications of ASTM A153. They are available for various pole types, including threaded steel pole steps.
For wood utility poles, detachable pole steps are used to provide the first solid step. They are fitted over mounts using large screws, allowing for the installation of two or more steps to assist linemen in accessing permanent steps.
To ensure proper driving depth during installation, knurled rings are installed, while the flat surface of the pole step makes installation easier for the user.
